Apartment Building in Khamovniki
MOSCOW, RUSSIA
This project, a 16-story residential tower located in one of Moscow’s most prestigious historic neighborhoods, was developed as an invited competition entry. The program includes 60 luxury residences, underground parking, a private landscaped courtyard, and a boutique hotel housed within an adjacent restored 1830s bank building.
The brief called for a traditional architectural expression reflecting the project’s elite status. The proposed design draws on a confluence of architectural influences. It includes the neoclassical language of 19th-century Moscow mansions, some of which still line the nearby streets. The design also references early American skyscrapers that adopted classical stylization, as well as their contemporary reincarnation in the work of RAMSA. Finally, the design pays homage to Moscow’s unique take on Art Deco, as seen in the city’s iconic Seven Sisters towers—a particularly fitting reference given that several of these historic skyscrapers will be visible from the new tower’s windows and terraces.
