About

Experience Across Typologies and Styles

My career spans more than three decades, two countries, and a wide variety of projects—from private residences to large mixed-use developments.
A graduate of the Architectural University in St. Petersburg, Russia, I was fortunate to experience the last vestiges of traditional architectural training. This, combined with the classical beauty of St. Petersburg, instilled in me an enduring appreciation for the richness and diversity of architectural languages—an influence that continues to shape my work to this day.

For most of my career, I worked as a Senior Designer with various American architectural firms, guiding teams on major award-winning projects in the United States and abroad. I am equally comfortable leading a design team or working hands-on through every phase of the design process—from initial concept to design development.

In February 2022, I established Vlad Liflyandchick Design & Illustration LLC to offer my services in conceptual and schematic design and architectural illustration to architectural firms, developers, and leasing teams.

APPROACH

Design as an Art Form—a Strategic Advantage

I view architectural design and illustration as an art form—a form of visual communication capable of delighting and touching people emotionally. In the highly competitive world of commercial development, this may seem like an unreasonable luxury. But in reality, this emotional connection can be an ultimate strategic advantage, helping projects stand out from generic competition, attract attention, and create lasting value. The best part is that this impact can be achieved without added expense—only through thoughtful design and artistic intent.

Telling the story in the right language

When it comes to architectural “languages,” I consider myself a polyglot, refusing to be bound by the artificial limitations of contemporary architectural vocabulary—or any other particular style, for that matter. I listen to clients, study the context, and draw inspiration freely from the abundance of precedents—always seeking the right poetic expression to convey the unique character of each project and the story it needs to tell.

Time-honored craft

In my practice, I often rely on the time-honored craft of freehand architectural sketching and drawing. I pride myself on being one of the exceedingly rare professionals who maintain this craft. It is not only the most intuitive and immediate way to explore ideas but also a great way to share the creative process and initiate collaborations. Whether hand-drawn or digitally rendered, my sketches and illustrations carry a recognizable signature and the tangible quality of a crafted image, distinguishing them from ubiquitous polished computer-generated products. They are designed to delight and move the viewer—and, in doing so, advance the project toward realization.

The joy of collaboration

At this stage of my professional life, I have learned to value most of all the opportunity for creative collaboration with trusted, like-minded partners—developers, architects,  leasing professionals—working together to make our environment a little more harmonious and beautiful.

I look forward to many new such collaborations. Please contact me to start a conversation.
